Mari Petherbridge

OWNER / INSTRUCTOR

Mari Petherbridge began her fitness career at a young age. She danced pre-professional ballet for 15 years, and had company offers on the table senior year when a serious ankle sprain turned into a career ending injury. Through years of doctors appointments, scans, and misdiagnosis, Mari was at 17 unable to take her dog for more than a 5 minute walk before shooting pain would go up and down her leg and through her ankle.

Being uninterested in “exploratory surgery” Mari was forced to look at other options for workouts through her time of injury. Most of Mari’s dancing career she had taken the harder, faster, and more approach, and a rest day was something she didn’t understand. She tried restorative yoga, gyrotonics, and many other modalities until she finally found Pilates. This was the only form of exercise that seemed to not aggravate her injury, while giving her a tough workout. She fell in love instantly!

She became an instructor right after she turned 18, and has been in the Fitness and Pilates Industry ever since. Mari has managed multiple Pilates locations, studied with some incredible Pilates professionals, and continues to grow her practice and business mindset every year.

Seeing how Pilates was able to give her an outlet for healthy movement, Mari strives to provide the same experience for her clients. Whether you are nursing an injury, cross training, or just looking to get back into Pilates shape, Mari is the choice for you!

After years in the Pilates and Training industry, Mari became fascinated with Nutrition. Seeing how some clients got to results and healed quicker, the common thread became lifestyle and diet. In wanting to go deeper, Mari signed up for a 2 year Holistic Nutritionist Certification through Bauman College.

After the extensive program, Mari enjoys working with people to help them learn how to eat to build health and health building habits, eating for sports and performance, as well as, weight loss, and hormone rebalancing, to name a few.

Mari has found so much benefit in working with individuals around their quality of food, rather than number of calories. Regardless of your goals and journey, and Mari can create a custom plan for you that will leave you feeling great, and help you grow your habits and tools for overall nutritional success!

What Is Pilates?

Pilates is a vigorous full-body workout that simultaneously stretches and strengthens muscles groups, leaving no muscle over or under toned. Pilates over time can create balance within the body to assure proper movement patterns and helps to eliminate risk of injuries and overtraining.

Pilates was created by Joseph H. Pilates in the early 20th century. He originally named it Contrology, but everyone referred to it as Pilates. Joseph believed that the key to a healthy mind was physical fitness, and he created Pilates to develop the body, mind, and spirit simultaneously. Although Pilates has had some minor modernization with the scientific gain of anatomy and physiology, the principles and moves set down by Mr. Pilates remain the same.

“In 10 sessions you’ll feel the difference, in 20 sessions you’ll see the difference, and in 30 sessions you’ll have a whole new body” Joseph H. Pilates.

What is Holistic Nutritional Consulting?

The word holistic is what sets apart the holistic nutritional experience from other nutritional experts. The Holistic Nutritionist has been trained to take into consideration the physical aspect (macro/micro nutrients, booster foods, supplementation), chemical aspect (digestion, stress and hormones, nutritional biochemistry), mental aspect (how and what believe and think of food, what we were taught as young children, bad habits that are hard to change), emotional aspect (relationship with food, how we use food when we are happy, sad, angry, healthy and unhealthy ways we equate food to things), as well as environmental aspects (toxins, community, support of close family and friends), and lastly, spiritual aspects (this means many different things for many people).

Looking at the client as a whole being, including all aspects above, we focus on more than just food. A whole person perspective is taken, emphasizing foods that help to build health and longevity, while uncovering underlying causes for lifestyle patterns that have been keeping you from achieving your health and wellness goals. All techniques are science based, and goal oriented to get the client to their goals promptly, and without delay.

When a whole person approach is mixed with whole foods, you treat the entire person, and see an overwhelming positive effect. As a holistic nutritional consultant, the eating for health approach is used to assist in this deep dive. The eating for health approach is not a diet, it is an individualized plan that features fresh, whole foods that align with people’s needs, preferences, and ethnic and cultural backgrounds, with attention paid to changes in seasons, situations, aging, and health challenges. This personalized program is created by your Holistic Nutritional Professional.

The goals of this unique system are first, to provide optimal amounts of macronutrients (proteins, fats, and carbohydrates), micronutrients (vitamins and minerals), phytonutrients (plant alkaloids with protective value), and other vital factors (enzymes, tastes, energetic properties) that can be most efficiently digested and assimilated. But Eating for Health also seeks to teach people about the intrinsic pleasures to be gained from choosing nutritious foods and eating them mindfully and with gratitude, which allows for better digestion and assimilation of nutrients, along with a sense of having nourished oneself not only physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well. As a Holistic Nutritional Consultant, it is our job to guide you in this process, and help to facilitate your start on your eating for health journey.
